The wheel (3.500 B.C.) Stop and think for a moment about the amount of gadgets and machines invented by mankind which would not exist if the wheel had not been invented before... A lot, right?... Just looking around, we realize that there would be no cars, buses, bikes, airplanes, motorcycles, chairs for the disabled... We can say that the wheel is one of the oldest inventions of humanity, and despite its simplicity, one of the most important ones. We could say it's the first great invention in history. Transport, economy and even war changed thanks to this simple invention. Our civilization evolved around the invention of the wheel. It was the Sumerians who had the great idea of joining through wooden bars a circle and a central axis. After the wheel, the first roads emerged in Mesopotamia. Of course, it is not known who made the first one, but it is proved that at first one was made of wood and was used in the potter's lathe to make pots. Little by little it was improved and gave birth to new and revolutionary inventions, like cars pulled by animals to transport people and goods, or to carry out the agricultural tasks. Its use was extended to pulleys, mills, spinning wheels, hydraulic wheels... contributing to the development of society up to present day.
