The Ugly Duckling Once upon a time, a beautiful duck married and soon laid many eggs. Almost all of them were white and perfect but one of them was completely different. It was brown with speckles. Little by little, the shells began to hatch, and the last one left was the brown egg. The duckling that came out was very strange, it had a very large head and a few dark feathers that made his brothers hold a grudge against him. Everyone laughed at the poor duckling, so one day the duckling could no longer stand it and decided to go away, so that no one else would hurt him or make fun of him. He walked through many places, where there were also ducks, but not anyone like him and they all continued to turn their backs on him. But the ugly duckling did not give up and continued to travel until one day he came to a large lake with cristal clear water. In that lake there were two snow-white birds, with long necks and so beautiful, that the duckling stayed watching them for a long time, staring. At first he thought of not getting close because such beautiful animals would surely reject him, but in the end he armed himself with courage and went over to them. Those beautiful animals were swans, who when they saw him, came and invited him to join them. The ugly duckling, surprised but happy, approached and so he could at last swim with someone else without feeling rejected. But he was surprised to see that, within a few days, his dark brown feathers began to fall and other new, completely white ones, grew instead. Also his body began to become bigger and more elegant. At last, the ugly duckling realized what was happening: He was not an ugly duckling, afterall he was not a duck but a swan! He lived happily everafter with his own kind and realized that all animals are beautiful in their own way and deserve to live surrounded by love.
