The "retouched" meeting of Hitler and Franco Two new faked photographs of the interview held between Franco and Hitler in Hendaye (France) in 1940 have been found in the historical photographic archive of the EFE Agency, during the current process of recovery and digitization. The two photos were distributed in Spain on October 23rd, 1940 and, although they do not distort the history, are the result of a montage. In one of them, on the original image of the station of Hendaye, of which the negative is preserved and in which the platform is empty, appear literally "glued" on it the figures of Franco and Hitler together with that of a German soldier. In the other, Franco and Hitler inspect the German troops at the station. In the photo obtained from the negative Franco appears with his eyes closed, and in the one published his eyes were open, having stuck another image of his face on the original. The image does not distort the historical facts because, as the photograph shows, the two dictators inspected the troops at the station in Hendaye and raised their hands as greetings, as seen in another authentic snapshot. The montage was possibly carried out to give greater enhancement to the dictators. In addition to the edges, a consequence of the "gluing" of the figures, in this photo you can see that Franco wears on his uniform the Spanish Military Medal, instead of the German Eagle Cross, which was the one that really showed off. The work of digitizing the archive has allowed us to discover numerous photographs of the historical memory of Spain, many of which have been used in recent years in numerous books and exhibitions. The archive has more than 13 million of graphic documents, in which the memory of the twentieth century is preserved, two million of which are in digital format and are accessible by Internet through the Photographic Library.
