The Pied Piper of Hamelin Once upon a time there was a city called Hamelin, in which all its inhabitants lived happily, until an invasion of harmless but annoying rats filled up all the streets and houses. The main problem of the rats was that they were eating all the crops and people were afraid of running out of reserves for the next few months. For this reason, the mayor of the city offered a reward to the person who managed to get rid of all the rats. Among those who appeared, stood out a Pied piper who vowed to end the invasion. The mayor accepted and the Pied Piper started playing his flute to try to attract the rats. Shortly after beginning to play his beautiful melody, one by one all the rats of the village began to follow him, so little by little, he got away from the city until he reached a river where the rats fell into. So then the Pied Piper came back to the city to collect his rich reward. As there was no problem anymore, the mayor and his councellors decided not to pay this good man who had helped them to eliminate this dangerous plague of rats. This made the Pied Piper very angry and decided that he would start playing the flute again, but on this occasion, it would be the children of the village who would follow him instead of the rats. And just as he thought, would happen: no matter how much the parents called their little ones, they ignored them. Finally, the Pied Piper went away, to a country where they all could play, sing and dance as much as they wanted. This is how the people lost their children, filling the population with sadness. This taught a great lesson to both the mayor and the villagers.

ГАМЕЛЬНСКИЙ КРЫСОЛОВ Давным-давно в городе Гамельне, где все люди жили счастливо, однажды случилось нашествие крыс. Эти вроде безобидные, но неприятные животные наводнили все улицы и забегали в дома. Главной проблемой было то, что крысы сожрали весь урожай, и жители боялись, что им вскоре будет нечего есть. Поэтому бургомистр назначил большую награду тому, кто избавит город от крыс. Разозлился крысолов и снова заиграл на дудочке, только на этот раз за ним последовали не крысы, а дети со всего города. И задуманное удалось: как ни звали родители своих детей, дети не обращали на них никакого внимания. В конце концов, крысолов увел детей далеко-далеко, в страну, где все они могли играть, петь и танцевать сколько угодно. И город остался без детей, а его все жители погрузились в печаль. Это послужило хорошим уроком как бургомистру, так и всем горожанам.
